IT’S MANGO SEASON!!!

A mango is an edible stone fruit produced by the tropical tree Mangifera indica which is believed to have originated from the region between northwestern Myanmar, Bangladesh, and northeastern India.

Mangoes are sweet, creamy fruits that have a range of health benefits. They are extremely popular all over the world.

The mango is a tropical stone fruit and member of the drupe family. This is a type of plant food with a fleshy outer section that surrounds a shell, or pit. This pit contains a seed.

Other members of the drupe family include olives, dates, and coconuts.

All kinds of mangoes

There are many distinct kinds of mangoes. They vary in color, shape, flavor, and seed size. Although mango skin can be green, red, yellow, or orange, its inner flesh is mostly golden yellow. I’ve had a mango once that tasted like peaches in Belize.

These are the one you will most like see at the grocery store or your local market.

Mango Sticky Rice Dessert (Khao Niaow Ma Muang)

Mango Sticky Rice – is on my favorites. This is not friendly to the waste line. I usually make a big batch…

There are so many recipes to be found on the Internet and Youtube on how to make this dessert . I like mine to be more on the dry side and let the mango juices be the source of sweetness.

I have more pictures of my travels all over Asia eating some kind of mango dessert posted on my Instagram Urbanplate89.

Childhood memories

I remember one time my brother and I ate a whole brown grocery bag of mangoes. Unbeknownst to us, eating too much mangoes can cause a diuretic effect. Back in the 70’s, active duty military families were able to catch cheap flights flying from one airbase to another. These flights did not have the luxury of several toilets. We were getting flying on a C5 cargo flight from the Philippines to Okinawa, Japan. Our seats were jump seats, not padding or comfort. Let’s just say it was the longer flight of our young lives.

Even with that kind of experience has not deterred me from my love of mangoes!!!
